Black announces 2014 GDA & UGA Legislative Farm Tour

(Atlanta, GA) Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Gary W. Black announced today that the 2nd Annual Georgia Department of Agriculture and University of Georgia Legislative Farm Tour will be held Wednesday, September 3, 2014.

Commissioner Black, University of Georgia President Jere Morehead, College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Dean Scott Angle and elected officials will spend the day traveling to local farms and agribusinesses throughout Georgia in an effort to showcase Georgia agriculture. They will be joined by Georgia Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman John Wilkinson, Georgia House Agriculture Committee Chairman Tom McCall, State House Appropriations Committee Chairman Terry England and State Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Jack Hill.

The tour will begin with a visit to Brooksco Dairy in Quitman followed by visits to the Langboard OSB Plant in Quitman, the Mana Plant in Fitzgerald, the Coffee County Cotton Gin in Douglas and the UGA Research Center in Alma.

The GDA & UGA Legislative Farm Tour serves as an opportunity for President Morehead to learn more about Georgia’s agribusinesses and the key role that the agriculture industry plays in Georgia’s economy. The tour also provides a chance for members of Georgia’s agriculture community to share concerns with elected officials and discuss how current or proposed legislation and regulations will affect their operations.
