Imported chew bars recalled for lead levels

Friday, January 14, 2011

Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Gary Black alerts consumers to the recall of some candy from Pakistan that may have elevated levels of lead.

Candy Dynamics, Indianapolis, also known as Circle City Marketing and Distributing, is recalling all flavors of Toxic Waste® brand Nuclear Sludge® Chew Bars. The California Department of Public Health recently tested one lot of the cherry flavor product and found it to contain elevated levels of lead.

High lead levels have the potential to cause health problems in infants, small children and pregnant women.

This recall involves the entire product line since its inception in 2007.

The recalled products are: Toxic Waste® Nuclear Sludge® Cherry Chew Bar (UPC 0 89894 81430 6), Toxic Waste® Nuclear Sludge® Sour Apple Chew Bar (UPC 0 10684 81410 7) and Toxic Waste® Nuclear Sludge® Blue Raspberry Chew Bar (UPC 0 89894 81420 7). Each chew bar has a net weight of 0.7 ounces, or 20 grams.

No other Toxic Waste® brand product is involved in this recall. The Nuclear Sludge® Chew Bars were distributed nationwide in retail stores and through mail orders.

Consumers who purchased these products should contact Candy Dynamics at (317) 228-5012 for information concerning their disposal.
