Publix recalls boxes of vanilla wafers, packaged with gingersnap cookies containing soy not listed on the label

Monday, August 18, 2008

Commissioner of Agriculture Tommy Irvin is alerting Georgians to the recall of some boxes of vanilla wafers that may cause health problems to people with allergies or sensitivity to soy.

Toufayan Bakery, the manufacturer of Publix Vanilla Wafers, is recalling a limited number of 12-ounce boxes of the vanilla wafers with a code date of 030409A as they may contain soy without listing so on the label.  Persons who have an allergy to soy run the risk of a serious or possible life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.

The UPC number of the recalled Publix Vanilla Wafers is 41415-00609 and may be found on the side label below the Nutrition Facts panel.  The wafers are packaged in 12-ounce paperboard boxes.  They were distributed to Publix stores in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama and Tennessee.

The recall was initiated after the discovery of gingersnap cookies co-packaged with the vanilla wafers.  The gingersnap cookies contain soy and are the reason for the recall.

Consumers with questions may contact Publix at 1-800-242-1227.  Anyone with concerns may return the product to the place of purchase for a replacement or refund.
