Dog and puppy owner surrenders 140 animals

Friday, August 14, 2009

Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tommy Irvin says 140 neglected dogs and puppies were “owner-surrendered” today in close-cooperation with the Charlton County Sheriff’s Department.

About a dozen of the animals are considered to be in poor condition.

“We had a complaint and we went out to investigate,” Irvin says.  “Working with the Charlton County Sheriff’s Department, the owner was able to avoid charges of cruelty to animals by voluntarily letting others care for these dogs and puppies.”

The animals, owned by a single person, were housed at two different locations in Charlton County.

The dogs and puppies are now under the care and treatment of Georgia Canine Rescue & Rehabilitation (Bleckley Co./Cochran, GA) and the Atlanta Humane Society.  Once cleared for adoption, those fine organizations will help find new homes for these animals, Irvin says.
