Plainview Recall Update - Precision Foods Cocoa

Monday, July 6, 2009

Precision Foods, Inc., St. Louis, is recalling some cocoa because the product may have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

Precision Foods received supplies from the Plainview Milk Products Cooperative that last week recalled its Plainview Instant Non-Fat Dry Milk products due to potential Salmonella contamination.  The cocoa may have been produced with the recalled non-fat dry milk product.

The recalled cocoa product is labeled Land O Lakes International Drinking Cocoa “Madagascar Vanilla.”  It is packed in 12.5 ounce foil bags marked with “Best By 09/04/10” or “Best by 11/05/10” in the lower right corner of the rear panel of the package.

The product, distributed nationally to retail stores and by mail order, has the UPC 8 78326 00071 0.

Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the elderly and others with weakened immune systems.

Consumers who have purchased the Madagascar Vanilla cocoa may return it to place of purchase for a full refund.  Consumers with questions should call drinking Madagascar Vanilla cocoa hotline at 1-877-585-2365.
