Some soft Mexican cheese recalled for possible Listeria contamination

Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tommy Irvin alerts consumers to the recall of soft Mexican cheese produced by Torres Hillsdale Country Cheese.

The Reading, Mich. firm is recalling all lots of its Soft Mexican Cheeses because of possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination, which can cause an uncommon but potentially fatal disease, Listeriosis.

The cheese products were distributed to retails stores and delis in Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, South Carolina, North Carolina, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin.

The soft Mexican cheese sold under the name 'Aguas Calientes' is listed as:

Product Unit Size

Queso Asadero 12 oz and 10 lb ball
Queso Oaxaca 10 lb ball
Queso Fresco 1 lb and 8 oz.
Queso Requeson  1 gallon pail and 3 gallon pail
Morral Adobera  3 lb packages

Packaging also may have the product name "Torres Hillsdale Country Cheese LLC".  The recall encompasses all expiration dates.

Listeriosis can cause high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea.  It also can cause miscarriages and stillbirths.  People experiencing these problems should seek immediate medical attention.
