TO ALL INTERESTED PERSONS AND PARTIES:

Per Senate Bill 364, passed in the legislative session of 2008, “ratites” must be removed from departmental rules relating to meat inspection and meat processing.  Notice is hereby given that the Georgia Department of Agriculture will be accepting public comment on the rules change as set out below.

SYNOPSIS, MAIN FEATURES AND DIFFERENCES:

Departmental rule 40-10-1-.02 “ratite” shall be removed from the definition of ‘livestock’.

Under departmental rule 40-10-1-.04 (2) “ratite” shall be removed under the custom slaughter provision of the rule.

Departmental rule 40-10-1-.14 (2) “Official Marks, Devices, and Certificates” the word ratite will be removed so as not to allow the official marks and devices to identify inspected and passed products of cattle, non-traditional livestock, sheep, swine or goats, but no longer “ratites”.

“Ratites” shall also be removed from departmental rule 40-10-1-.18, “Marketing Products and their Containers”, to comply with Senate Bill 364.
